Frequently Asked Questions

  • What will our first session look like?

    • Your first session is a space to slow things down and start building a sense of understanding together. We’ll spend time getting to know what’s been weighing on you, what you’re hoping to change or make sense of, and what you’d like from therapy. I’ll ask intentional, supportive questions at a comfortable pace, using your intake paperwork as a guide for deeper context. During this 75-minute session, you’re encouraged to share what feels most important to you and to ask questions along the way.

  • What will our regular sessions look like?

    • Therapy is your space, and you’re welcome to show up exactly as you are. You don’t need to have a plan or know what to talk about. I’ll meet you with curiosity, compassion, and collaboration, often starting sessions by asking, “What feels important today?” I may also gently reference themes from recent sessions to help us stay connected to where you’ve been and where you’d like to go.

You’re welcome to bring anything that helps you feel comfortable. My office has blankets, pillows, fidgets, coffee/tea/water, and you’re always invited to bring your own cozy items as well.

While therapy can hold heavy moments, there’s also room for lightness and laughter when it feels appropriate. As we move forward, I’ll regularly check in about your goals to make sure each session feels supportive, meaningful, and aligned with what you need.

  • Will everything I share in therapy stay private?

    • Yes, confidentiality is a foundational part of the therapeutic relationship. What you share in session remains private, and you’ll receive a written informed consent form that clearly explains how your information is protected. You are always in control of your story, and I will not share information with anyone, including other providers, without your written permission.

There are a few legal and ethical limits to confidentiality that exist to protect your safety and the safety of others. As a mandated reporter, I am required to break confidentiality if there is suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or vulnerable adult, or if you are at serious risk of harming yourself or someone else. If any of these situations arise, we will talk through them with care. My goal is always to prioritize your safety and well-being while respecting your autonomy as much as possible.

  • How long will I be in therapy?

    • There’s no one-size-fits-all timeline for therapy. Some clients reach their goals in a few months, while others choose to continue longer as part of ongoing support or maintenance. Therapy can be short-term and focused, or a longer-term space for reflection, growth, and support. The pace and length are shaped by your needs.

My role is to support you for as long as therapy feels helpful. When you’re feeling confident in the progress you’ve made, we’ll talk together about whether it feels like the right time to wrap up. That decision is always collaborative and guided by you.

Many clients choose to pause therapy and return later when life shifts or stress increases, and I always welcome reconnecting with past clients. Whether your time in therapy is brief or ongoing, we’ll shape the work around what feels most supportive for you.

  • How will I know when it's time to end therapy?

    • When it’s time to wrap up our work together, that decision is always made collaboratively. I won’t tell you that you’re “done.” My priority is to support you for as long as therapy feels helpful and needed. When we do decide together that it’s time to close this chapter, I typically recommend a closing session.

I believe endings matter. A closing session can serve as a meaningful way to reflect on the work you’ve done, acknowledge growth, and honor the therapeutic relationship. No matter how brief or long our time together has been, taking time to thoughtfully close can be a supportive and grounding part of the process.

  • What's your cancellation policy?

    • Your appointment time is reserved specifically for you. I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. Without that notice, the full session fee of $125 will be charged. No-shows are also billed at the full rate.

I understand that unexpected things come up. Each client is offered one courtesy late cancellation or no-show. After that, any late cancellations, reschedules, or missed sessions will be charged in full. In cases of emergency or sudden illness, special consideration may be given at my discretion.

I will offer the same courtesy in return. Should I ever need to cancel or reschedule, I will do so with at least 24 hours notice when possible.
